Staycationing and a quick trip to Burpengary & Bundaberg – 13/16.02.2021

On the weekend of 12/13/14 February 2021, we celebrated three birthdays. On 15/16 we continued to celebrate one of those which was a significant one. We had a staycation but first there was Bundaberg.

Friday saw a trip to Burpengary for a love meal with dear friends. Birthday number one. We were relatively well behaved because riding with a hangover or being affected by alcohol is quite simply, not fun.

It’s been a while since I had been on the back of the bike, over any distance, November was probably the last time, so a nice 76km round trip was in order. All in all, I think we pulled up pretty well and any aches and pains were medicated with a little beverage.

I know businesses are doing it tough but I was disappointed that our chosen café/restaurant for birthday celebrations seems to charge for every addition these days. Having the fish + chips & salad was $30 on average. The tartare sauce for the seafood basket was an extra $1.50. Don’t get me wrong, I will pay for good food but I am disappointed at the cost for food which was okay.

Anyways, spending time with one aging yet full of westitude pooch was lovely, oh and seeing the parents was pretty good too.

Back in Brisbane, we de-biked, de-road grimed and cleaned ourselves up to head to The Fantauzzo for a gorgeous staycation to celebrate. It is not an every day stay but when travel to Tasmania became a “not option” due to covid-19, the staycation became an option.

Having said this, in the process of changing from one set of gear to another, and moving around the house towards the bathroom to freshen up, a door frame jumped out at me and smashed into my toe. Very antisocial that…

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Tartufo on Sunday night. We ventured to Moo Moo on Monday night. The service was a bit ordinary, the meal was fabulous. On Monday, walked (as we did on Sunday afternoon) and covered a lot of ground. We also found time for a massage and high tea, acquired a new toy (drone so you will see some footage coming the next few months once the operator gets used to it and that operator is not this writer) and did a little shopping. We had to hydrate so where better than under the Story Bridge at happy hour.

Our plans for a significant break were scarpered a second time thanks to covid-19. As a result, we travelled our country and stayed locally, supporting some local business. We will do the same, however not quite so locally, in May when out third iteration of this break comes to pass. From a planned trip to Europe, to Tasmania, we will be road tripping some of Queensland.

For now though, whilst this post is a little late, we celebrated amongst loved ones, observing the restrictions yet still managing to travel and have a good time. It doesn’t take much if you put a little thought into it. Here’s cheers.

What do you think?
