A little challenge
This post is not about the journey of physical travel but the journey of mental travel.
During the week I had a situation that snuck up on me – I tuned in to a Teams court appearance and saw a face from the past, someone whose last interaction with me was to tell me “get” and gestured to get out of the office. It was an appalling display. So, I was a little anxious when seeing his face on screen, hoping he was not involved in my matter. It had been a particularly different last week in that environment and in the lead up period. I continued to hope that he was not in my matter. I was able to observe his appearance because thankfully, he was not in my matter.
There is a lot to be said for knowing your field. There is a lot to be said for making concessions when they should be made. There is a lot to be said for appreciating that this is a different jurisdiction from the one you probably usually practice in and this is not “a walk in the park” nor “a piece of cake”. It was, quietly, a relief to see him out of his depth. It was also sad as he was clearly floundering with no basis for his argument.
The relief when that appearance was over, and he was off screen, was significant but it still took a little time to re-settle. My groove returned and my appearance went well. It is interesting how experiences sneak up on you, at unanticipated and unexpected times. Cheers and here’s to good times
