Upheaval

So, this post has been several weeks in the making. Time has overtaken me. I say that lovingly, in part. The weekends of October were spent, other than the long weekend, sorting and packing for 2 weekends (one in and around a dear friend coming to visit) and doing odds and bobs, the last weekend was a trip to Bundaberg to see my mum after some surgery, and also to annoy the pooch. The first weekend of November was spent moving after our house purchase settled. The second weekend of November was spent sorting things out and making our place a home.

We have not missed out on the opportunity to enjoy some good food in fabulous company, nor to wash down those meals or whet our whistle with a lovely beverage or two. This is part of living and helps make it all worthwhile – especially at places you have not been before and where you are pleasantly surprised.

Time passes quickly. You realise just how quickly as you are moving to settlement and have to pack. You realise, suddenly, that there is 1 weekend left, money needs to be moved, and this whole adventure is now real. As you pull down pictures and box up life, you know you should declutter, and you kind of doIt’s a time of “new” – new to us, our first home together, furniture bought together, first upcoming holiday as a married couple as our belated honeymoon and first anniversary follow 2 weeks after we move. We move 5 days after settlement, but in that 5 nights we move a car load of things each night.

Life moves fast. Breathe. Take time. Reflect. Be true. Be honest. Be kind.

There is nothing so simple and so nice as the smell of sunshine on clothes, and the smell remains when the clothes are stacked, waiting their home because you are still sorting out your storage options. It is a simple delight having a clothes line on which you can hang clothes for what seems like forever as it is a long expanse parallel to the back fence.

You keep going to the second kitchen drawer for things then realise that the contents of said drawer are having their own holiday in this upheaval called home ownership. It’s a wonderful time if you don’t let it overtake you and overwhelm you.

We don’t seem to do things by halves or slowly – and this is not through deliberate action. It is taking its toll and we are both hanging for a little break (it’s been over 2 years since we had some downtime) which should commence within 24 hours of this post. It is also our first wedding anniversary and for that special occasion, being a paper anniversary, we decided on a mortgage. Actually, we have several days away, indulging and enjoying, travelling new roads and being in a different space to mark the first anniversary of the formal part of our relationship – particularly as we did not have a honeymoon and that little European escapade (for which we have still not received reimbursement from our travel agent) of 5 weeks exploring was unceremoniously cancelled due to that pesky Covid-19 (for which I have the utmost respect as a virus).

So, I bid you goodnight. If I sort my act out, there will be photos to accompany this post. If not, they’ll be attached to another somewhere along the way in the next week or so. For now, it is time to enjoy the breezes that traverse the 5km of land to get to our place from the ocean, take a breath, and put some gear together for a few days of motorcycling. Cheers

What do you think?
